BBBS Annual Picnic

July 21, 2011

Today was the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern Nevada Annual Picnic at Rancho San Rafael Park, and it was our first adventure since L got back from her summer vacation visiting her grandparents in Idaho. We got to the park at the specified starting time and the BBBS crew was still getting set up and organized. We checked in and started looking around at all of the activities...musical carpets (instead of musical chairs), bean bag toss, tic-tac-toe, hula hoops, face painting, bicycle riding, football, etc. Lots and lots of fun stuff! We were also given an icebreaker game where we had to talk to 20 other people and learn something we had in common with them and something that was different. We got started on the icebreaker, did a little hula-hooping, and after a little while L spotted her best friend, A, who was with her brother and her Big. Once the girls spotted each other they were inseparable for the rest of the evening. They got their faces painted, once cheek with BFF and one cheek with a butterfly, all in purple. They did the hula-hooping contest (L’s a marathon hula-hooper) and played most of the other games. Dinner was donated by Port of Subs and dessert by Sam’s Club (such a generous community we live in). It was a fun evening with lots of other Bigs and Littles.
3 hoops at a time...hula hoop champ!
During the hula hoop contest, arms crossed like she's bored.
She and the other girl in the picture tied and both got to pick a prize

Until our next adventure . . .
